The Le Moyne College Department of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) awards one full-tuition arts scholarship each year. Applications are open to all prospective undergraduate students who have applied and been accepted to Le Moyne College. Students interested in majoring in theatre arts or minoring in music, dance, visual art or arts administration are invited to apply. Applicants are welcome to apply under multiple disciplines. Guidelines for required auditions and/or interviews will appear below after you select your discipline(s).

Arts Administration

Arts Administration Program Guidelines

Le Moyne College offers a minor in arts administration, so applicants of any major are eligible. With specific questions about arts administration interviews, please email Lindsey Voorhees (sikeslq@lemoyne.edu).

The Arts Administration program is seeking emerging artists, educators, and arts administrators interested in developing the skills to manage the arts in communities, not-for-profit organizations, and for-profit businesses. Applicants are asked to prepare a resume of arts related activities and experiences to bring to scholarship day.

On scholarship day applicants will meet one-on-one with arts administration faculty. Some prompts to help prepare for your interview are as follows:

What is your understanding of the role of an arts administrator?
What is your previous experience managing the arts (this may include your own artistic practice)?
What are your professional goals, and how can the arts administration program at Le Moyne help you achieve them?

Dance

Dance Program Guidelines

Le Moyne College offers a minor in dance, so applicants of any major are eligible. Applicants should have a minimum of two years of consistent, high quality dance training. With specific questions about dance auditions, please email Ruth Arena (arenar@lemoyne.edu).

The dance faculty is looking for passionate, curious, intelligent movers with the capacity to explore new ideas and work with an interdisciplinary approach, noting both talent and skill. Applicants are asked to prepare a one-to-two-minute solo dance piece in your best style to perform at scholarship day.

On scholarship day, applicants will:

Perform their prepared solo number. You are invited to bring music on a computer or phone; aux and lightning cable attachments are available.
Speak individually with dance faculty about your artistic goals and how you envision furthering those goals as a Le Moyne student.
Participate in a warmup based in ballet technique and a combination that incorporates modern, contemporary and jazz styles.

Music

Music Program Guidelines

Le Moyne College offers a minor in music, so applicants of any major are eligible. With specific questions about music auditions, please email program director Edward Ruchalski (ruchaleg@lemoyne.edu).

Instrumental Applicants:

Applicants are asked to prepare two contrasting works not exceed five minutes total, that spotlight you and your abilities.

On scholarship day:

Applicants will perform their pieces for music faculty.
Instrumental auditions will be unaccompanied, but students may bring an accompaniment track to perform with if they wish.

Vocal Applicants:

Applicants should prepare two contrasting pieces to perform at audition day. Accepted genres include: classical, musical theatre and jazz, or a combination thereof. The two pieces may be from the same genre. The total time for both pieces (combined) should not exceed five minutes. Your pieces should contrast each other in some way (one classical/one musical theatre, one up-tempo/one ballad, etc.) and should be well prepared, age/tone appropriate and chosen to best spotlight you and your abilities.

On scholarship day:

Applicants will perform their pieces for music faculty.
An accompanist is provided, free of charge, for all vocal auditions. Rehearsal time is not provided. Please bring a clean copy of your music, in the appropriate key, in a binder for the accompanist (no lead sheets).

Theatre Arts Program Guidelines

Le Moyne College offers a major and minor in theatre arts. Applicants must be potential theatre arts majors to apply under the theatre arts discipline. Applicants are able to apply either with an audition (for performance theatre applicants) or a portfolio review and interview (for design and technical theatre applicants). Design/Technical Theatre Applicants:

Applicants are asked to prepare a portfolio of their work to bring to scholarship day.

This portfolio can include:

Design renderings/drawings
Photographs or slides of scenic, lighting, or costume designs
Drafted light plots
Paper work (instrument schedule, patch sheet, cue sheets, cheat sheets, research collages for designs, working drawings and/or drafting samples, painter’s elevations)
Anything else that you feel gives us insight into your working process and artistic vision.

On scholarship day:

Applicants will meet with theatre arts faculty to review their portfolio.

Theatre Performance Applicants:

Applicants are asked to prepare two contrasting monologues from published plays. Applicants interested in musical theatre should prepare one monologue and one musical theatre song. The total time for both pieces (combined) should not exceed five minutes. Your pieces should contrast each other in some way (one older piece/one newer, one dramatic/one comedic, etc.) and should be well prepared, age/tone appropriate and chosen to best spotlight you and your abilities.

On scholarship day:

Applicants will perform their monologues and songs for theatre arts faculty.
An accompanist is provided, free of charge, for all vocal auditions. Rehearsal time is not provided. Please bring a clean copy of your music, in the appropriate key, in a binder for the accompanist (no lead sheets).

Visual Art

Visual Art Program Guidelines

Le Moyne College offers a minor in visual art, so applicants of any major are eligible. With specific questions about visual art portfolios, please email Kim Waale (waalek@lemoyne.edu).

The visual arts program is seeking students who love drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, digitally generated design/imagery and sculpture. Applicants are asked to prepare a portfolio of their work to bring to scholarship day. Portfolios may be presented digitally or hands on and should include 12-15 works. Applicants may bring a sketch book in addition to their portfolio. All types of artwork will be considered, including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography and digitally generated designs.

Artwork should demonstrate:

A working knowledge of the principles of design (balance, movement, proportion, contrast, emphasis, repetition)
Usage of the elements of art (line, value, texture, space, shape, color)
A variety of media and approaches
Skillful competence with materials and techniques.
A professional presentation and accurate representation of your artwork.

On scholarship day:

Applicants will meet with visual arts faculty to review their portfolio.
